Needle Felting @BettyMakes

You HAVE to try this!
It’s so riveting & absorbing as a crafter.

Turning this …

With only this …

Back at the beginning of August I took my 14 year old going on 30 year old, cousin to a Needle Felting Class at BettyMakes. With Betty Makes owner Jean-Mary and needle felting teacher Jenny Tidman .

I’ve always loved spending time with B and she’s an angel. But Zoo trips & Days at the park have made way for Shopping Marathons & Cinema RomCom trips as the years have passed and the conversation has changed from Sponge Bob Square Pants & Tracy Beaker to Clothes & Make-up & to at the moment BOYS!

Sound familiar ??

Well this holiday I wanted to do something different with her but what ??

As a child she loved crafty things so I text (NB.apparently your not allowed to ‘K’ someone in a text it’s totally rude – I’ve been told) and asked if she fancied doing Needle Felting. After a brief discussion of whats that? And a few google searches later to show her, we were signed up.

So on Sunday 4th August a lovely sunny morning we turned up at The Betty Makes HQ ready & raring to go.

We both had a rough idea of what we wished to make and Jenny our teacher explain very clearly about the process of felting how the ‘stabby’ tool links and ‘felts’ the fibres, how to go about producing our designs etc.

And then we set to work. Not a mobile phone was seen from 10am-4.30pm!
No texting friends not even at lunch time; a certain person was so engrossed in the day! A great compliment to Jean-Mary’s lovely home cooked soup too I feel.

I haven’t got many photos of the work in process, but Jean-Mary has done a lovely write up on the Betty Makes Blog.

My Crafty Loving Little Girl was still inside this Little Lady she had a great day and told our Family & Friends all about it- and the cool lady with purple hair (Jenny). She was really proud of what she achieved.

B had recently sat some GCSE’s early and with all the pressures of being a teenager. Feeling like you have to be and act in a certain way to be cool.
I think it was just nice for her to let go and relax for the day and it did her the world of good.

The conversation was at the right level for B. Both being Mum’s, Jenny & Jean-Mary understood how to chat with her without being l patronising, as we all know teenagers HATE that and sometimes its so easily done, then there is also the added bonus Jean-Mary works with children/young adults so has that wealth of experience too.

If you have a crafty teenager at a loose end or in need of a party idea for a child/teenager I would recommend Betty Makes . More and more teenagers are becoming vintage and like original things I think a cool bag making/decorating party would be great! But then that could be me just be projecting on my non existent teenagers haha.

I’m now working on a needle felted bunny version to look like our female bunny. I will show you been I am done.
